Operations Director (m/w/d)

  • The Operations Director coordinates the day to day activities within the operation, incorporating manufacturing engineering, planning and scheduling, quality, production and despatch
  • As the senior manager on site, the Operations Director is regarded as site landlord and takes a lead role in achieving volume/profit targets, and high levels of customer service
  • Effective management of company assets and resources to ensure that planned financial goals are achieved
  • Design and implement manufacturing systems and strategies in order to provide highest levels of customer service and support, and in line with the corporate strategic approach
  • Train and develop all operations staff using principles of continuous improvement
  • Develop systems to meet quality requirements of externally accredited standards (eg. ISO9000/QS, TS16949)
  • Take a lead role in capital expenditure requests for the site and in annual and strategic planning
  • Ensure maximum utilization of company assets (buildings, spares, machine tools and equipment, people and materials)
  • Lead the cost reduction process
  • Work with Marketing and Engineering functions to ensure the smooth and timely development of new products and the problem free transition to production
  • Transport and logistics implementation
  • The position is joint Prokurist at the site and reports to the Managing Director Europe
  • He will be responsible for 7 direct reports and 240 indirect reports
  • Sound education - to degree level, must be in a technical/engineering relating discipline
  • Proven track record in a manufacturing environment - 5 years plus in a senior role
  • Understanding financial issues (reporting systems and management accounting)
  • Understanding of quality requirements in "blue chip" businesses, ideally within automotive environment
  • Familiar with TQM programmes
  • Ideal background: "blue chip" - companies
  • Excellent leadership and man-managements skills
  • Fluency in English and German are a must
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Results and improvement driven
  • Experience of Anglo-Saxon business environment
  • Experience of non-unionised culture would be ideal
  • Regular extensive travel will be required
