CFO Europe with Japanese (m/f/d)

Our client is a Japanese provider of packaging solutions and machinery, active on a global scale with approx. 5,600 employees worldwide. In Europe they are active in 8 countries with approx. 1000 employees spread across 10 subsidiaries including Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, UK, Italy etc. The company is currently looking for a CFO (m/f/d) with a strategic mindset to take over the responsibility and management of the financial activities of all the European subsidiaries within the areas of both finance and controlling. The finance organisation includes 4-5 Finance Managers (direct reports) as well as approx. 30 further employees working functionally or indirectly under the CFO’s responsibility.

Your tasks

The position is responsible for the overall management of the financial activities of all 10 European subsidiaries. Responsibilities include:

  • Trusting cooperation with/ support of the Group CFO, the European CEO as well as the Japanese parent company as an active member of the European management team
  • Act as sparring partner and advisor to the European regional management teams in financial and strategic topics
  • Strategic development and improvement of (financial) processes and business strategies
  • Overseeing of the company’s fiscal activities such as budgeting, reporting and auditing (including J-SOX) as well as relevant internal/ external stakeholder-management
  • Support and participation in global financial topics/ projects in close collaboration with the Group CFO and other global colleagues to optimize company-wide strategic development
  • Pro-active identification of financial opportunities, improvements and risks (including new financial regulations), working closely with the Management in Europe and the HQ in order to find optimal solutions
  • Drive business development (e.g., through strategic investments), maintain and manage relationships with business partners and support the companies M&A activities when relevant
  • Empathetic and supportive leadership style, empowering team members to strive for confidence, development and growth

Your profile

  • Relevant experience as Finance Director or a similar senior management position, responsible for several international subsidiaries within a multinational company
  • Demonstrated extended knowledge of finance and controlling, as well as ex-perience leading a company through periods of significant change
  • Professional experience working within one or more Japanese stock exchange registered companies as well as knowledge of the required reporting regulations and auditing procedures (e.g., J-Sox)
  • High level of experience in “Japanese-specific” decision making processes (Ishikettei / 意思決定) e.g., preparation of approval documents (ringisho / 稟議書)
  • Language Skills: Business level English skills as well as very good Japanese skills are a must, German skills are advantageous but not mandatory
  • Affinity with IT and legal/ risk topics ideal
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills as well as business focus with proven track record of translating strategy into to concrete plans with effective implementation
  • Strong international communication skills as well as a balanced combination between leadership and team-orientation
